Cassat and Memorial Halls

New Residence Halls

Carleton College recently built two new student residences, Cassat Hall and Memorial Hall, south of the Language and Dining Center and north of First Street. The new residence halls house approximately 230 students and opened for student occupancy in the 2009-2010 academic year. The project allowed Carleton to reduce overcrowding in current student housing and bring back at least 100 students from off-campus housing.

The Minnesota architecture firm LHB developed the design to enhance the vista down Maple Street and will match the "college gothic" design of nearby Nourse Hall. The project pursued Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building certification at a Gold level of sustainability and LHB announced June 10, 2010 that the project was awarded LEED® Gold established by the U.S. Green Building Council and verified by the Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI). LEED is the nation’s preeminent program for the design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings.
