ENTERPRISE RENT-A-CAR 507-664-9944
Connect directly to Carleton's Enterprise Rent-A-Car account to make reservations to rent vehicles for personal use or College business when Carleton College fleet vehicles are not available or if it makes more economical sense to do so, (must be at least 21 years of age). The Northfield Enterprise location is located at the corner of Highway 3 and Second Street, at the rear of the Farmer's Insurance building.
ECO TRANS, NORTHWEST TAXI, AIRPORT TAXI, and TOP NOTCH TRANSPORTATION SERVICE
Transportation to and from the airport can be arranged by calling Eco Trans (507-664-3859), Northwest Taxi (1-800-837-1867), Airport Taxi (1-800-464-0555) or Top Notch Transportation Service (612-600-8794). Make reservations directly with the service.
NORTHFIELD TAXI SERVICES—JJ Taxi 291-8295 or 645-8737 and Taxi Connection, 645-4447
The traveler should arrange trips in advance. Identify yourself, your department, and your four-digit department number for direct billing to the College. Passengers may be picked up or returned to any location within the Northfield area. Taxi drivers do not expect a gratuity and none would be charged to the College.
The College will reimburse Faculty and Staff parking charges and mileage for travel on College business equal to the allowable IRS rate (currently $.45/mile). Personal student cars are reimbursed at a different rate. Check with the Business Office for the current allowable reimbursement rate for student cars. It is important to note that any accidents incurred while driving your own car will fall to your personal insurance coverage even if you are driving on Carleton business. Any accident or violation may therefore affect your driving record and your insurance rates. Under the financial responsibility law for the State of Minnesota, an owner is legally responsible for his own vehicle when a second party is using the car. He or she becomes liable for any negligence of the driver of the car. For this reason we ask that all faculty and staff who use or loan their cars for authorized College trips be sure that satisfactory limits of insurance for bodily injury, property damage, and medical payments are carried. Satisfactory limits for Bodily Injury are $100,000 per person, $300,000 per accident, and $50,000 for Property Damage Liability.
OTHER RENTAL CAR AGENCIES
Visitors to campus may arrange transportation for themselves through the many car rental agencies located at the airport and in the Twin Cities. Rates vary widely depending on type of vehicle and qualifying discounts. When you choose to use a rental agency outside of Northfield, you must make your own rental arrangements, you are responsible for meeting all of the terms of the rental contract that you sign, you are responsible for your own insurance, and you must pay the entire billed amount to the rental agency (including gasoline). You may request reimbursement for vehicle rental expenses when you travel on College business.
EDUCATIONAL & INSTITUTIONAL COOPERATIVE SERVICES (E&I) RENTALS
The College has discount arrangements with several car rental agencies including Enterprise and Hertz through the Education and Institution (E&I) Cooperative Service. Identify yourself as an E&I member and reference the following numbers: BCD #T557400; Hertz 800-654-2200, #CDP90440
