Arabic Manuscripts from the Minneapolis Institute of Arts

January 6 – February 12, 2006
Gould Library Atheneum, Carleton College

Books, illustrated and manually inscribed, hold a place of honor in Arabic art because of their connection to sacred teachings. Arabic Manuscripts from the Minneapolis Institute of Arts in the Gould Library, with examples from the 9th through the 16th centuries, demonstrates the beauty and variety of this highly refined art form. The selection of six Qu’ran pages and one leaf from a scientific treatise gives context to Dafatir: Contemporary Iraqi Book Art, the exhibition in the Art Gallery.
