Women slash at each other with cherry blossom branches! This performance was a mock battle played by court women in front of the Meiji Empress. The women use cherry blossom branches in place of swords as they tug and pull at each other. Chikanobu was one of Japan's most popular woodblock print designers of the 1880's and 1890's
