Christine LoFaso interrogates people’s relationships to their bodies through fiber arts and mixed media. Resident in Chicago and teaching at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Illinois, LoFaso has long investigated social, political, sexual, psychological and spiritual ideas about the body. With “The Body Project,” the artist invited men and women to answer questions about their bodies. These intimate texts were then digitally printed onto fabric panels inscribed with enlarged microscopic images of bodily fluids and substances including blood, mucus and hair. Layered fabric works move as if breathing, creating an enveloping sense of interior life – a space in which to experience the contradictory and shared feelings about, and sensations of, our bodies.
