Meet the Gender and Sexuality Center
MISSION STATEMENT
The GSC offers resources and support on LGBT, women’s and men’s issues and coordinates campus initiatives to prevent sexual violence. We work with other campus organizations and offices to strengthen and sustain an inclusive campus community that promotes gender equality and awareness and welcomes people of all sexual orientations and gender identities.
Meet the CAs and other staff.
To reach any of the GSC staff, call (507) 222-5222 or x5222 on campus.
Some of the resources we provide to the Carleton community are:
Individual support
The LGBT/GSC Advisor is available for individual support and advising on issues related to gender and sexuality. Gender and Sexualtiy Center Associates (GSCAs), students who work in the office, are also available for similar support. The Queer Peer mentoring program is another resource for students who are coming out and navigating their way on campus.
Peer Education
We offer ongoing peer-led educational programs for students, including LGBTA Panels, Our Whole Lives Comprehensive Sexuality Education Workshops, and Sexual Violence Prevention programs.
Lending Library
The center houses a large collection of books, magazines, and videos related to gender and sexuality. These materials are available for check out. Stop by and browse through our library!
Meeting space
The center provides a safe meeting space for related student groups. This space is also available for students to simply hang out or study. The GSC can be reserved by signing up on the calendar by the GSC office or contacting a GSCA.
Events & Event planning assistance
The GSC plans regular events, including annual events for National Coming Out Week, Vagina Monologues, Pride Month, and Not On Our Campus. The GSC can also help individual students and student organizations plan events, raise money, and do publicity.
