TUESDAY: “What is too much? What is not enough? A Cross-Cultural look at Women’s Fashion in the East and West”
How do women’s fashion choices inform our understanding of women’s oppression? This presentation/discussion will provide a forum for participants to explore how ideas about power, beauty, and attractiveness map themselves onto women’s bodies in different ways depending on the cultural context. More specifically, we will be examining women’s fashion in Dubai as opposed to women’s fashion in the U.S. What does it mean to cover one’s body? What do you gain by baring it all or leaving everything to the imagination?
Common Time Tuesday 2/12 Sayles-Hill 252. Lunch for the first 20 people.
