Speak Up is about centering and empowering the voices of survivors of power-based sexual violence. Speak Up is about holding space for survivors and remembering how this violence impacts our community. In the past, Speak Up has been a very white-centric space. We’re working to change that this year. In the past, we’ve only accepted written submissions to be read at Speak Up. This year, we’re expanding to include collage, poetry, movement, music, film, etc. If you are a survivor of power-based sexual violence, we invite you to share your story through whatever medium feels rights.

Speak Up will begin with a candlelit march at 8:30 on 6th Thursday. It will start at Sayles, and end in the Weitz, where we will view/listen to people’s submissions starting at 9pm. The banner we will carry during the march will be in the GSC all week. Feel free to stop by and contribute to painting it, but please respect Speak Up’s subject matter as you paint.

We ask that this space be held for survivors; please come to support but do not submit stories or art if you do not identify as a survivor.
