Advising
The Gender and Sexuality Center offers resources and support for LGBT students, including the College's LGBT Advisor. The GSC's services include:
- The Coming Out Support and Discussion Group, which meets weekly to offer structured support to students who are coming out or questioning their sexuality.
- The Trans/Gender Support and Discussion Group, which meets weekly to offer support to students who identify as transgender, and promotes discussion of the atmosphere for such students at Carleton.
- Serving as a contact for LGBT community-related resource and support groups on campus.
- Private discussions of LGBT issues related to life here at Carleton.
The College Chapel provides an LGBT community safe place on campus. The College chapel and staff are confidential resources available to anyone on campus. They offer individual support, educational activities, and often sponsor LGBT related events, including LGBT Chapel services to celebrate National Coming Out Day and Pride Month.
The Wellness Center staff are available to work with students in a variety of areas including LGBT issues. In addition to offering one-on-one conversations, they have a resource library that includes books, brochures and videos on LGBT topics.
The Career Center is the place to find internship and job opportunity resources for the Carleton LGBT community. The Career Center has books, websites, and other practical information available to help you find LGBT-friendly companies and LGBT-specific organizations.
Peer Support: There are many student groups and peer leaders that provide resources to the LGBT community. The Campus Advocates Against Sexual Harassment and Assault (CAASHA), Resident Assistants, Student Wellness Advisors (SWAs), Gender and Sexuality Center Associates and Multicultural Peer Leaders all receive training on sensitivity to LGBT issues and concerns. Many are also available as a resource for one-on-one advising and information on educational programming. The student organization CIAO also provides support to LGBT students. Also see the Support page for general student support options.
