Preliminary presidential election results in Haiti

According to preliminary election results released today, flamboyant carnival musician Michel Martelly beat Haitian first lady Mirlande Manigat in the presidential runoff vote held last month, receiving 67.6% of votes while Manigat received 31.5%.

US troops arrive in Haiti

U.S. troops have landed in Haiti, sources say, in anticipation of increased violence surrounding preliminary election results released today, proclaiming Michel Martelly the winner of the presidential run-off vote last month.
