The 2013 Flu Clinic for faculty and staff will take place in Great Hall on Thursday, October 3rd from 3:00-7:00 p.m. and on Monday, October 7th from 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.  and 3:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.

Faculty and staff are invited to bring their children (ages 3 and over) to our Flu Clinic again this year.

There are two types of influenza vaccine:

  1. Live attenuated (LAIV) which contains live but attenuated (weakened) influenza virus.  It is sprayed into the nostrils.  LAIV does not contain thimerosal/preservatives; it is recommended for healthy people 2-49 years of age who are not pregnant and do not have certain health conditions.  A Self-Screening Checklist for the FluMist will be available at the Flu Clinic.
  2. Inactivated (killed) influenza quadrivalent vaccine has been approved by the FDA and is available by injection and doe snot contain thimerosol/preservatives.  It is composed of two A strains and two B strains; it comes in a single dose, is preservative free and is available to those 3 years and up.  This vaccine will provide 25% more protection than the trivalent vaccine (which we have had in the past).

Please bring your health insurance card(s) on the day of your vaccination. The Homeland Health Specialists are able to accept insurance cards from BlueCross BlueShield (which is Carleton’s carrier), as well as insurance cards for Medica, HealthPartners, Preferred One, UCare, America’s PPO, Prime West, South Country Health Care Alliance and Medicare.  Homeland Health will bill your respective provider for the vaccine for all members of your family.

If the vaccination is not covered by your provider, the College will pay for the cost of your vaccine for you and your spouse/domestic partner.  Shots for children not covered by the insurance companies listed will be $30.00 for the injection or $35.00 for the FluMist, payable in cash at the time of administration.

Also available at our clinic this year will be the opportunity two other immunizations. They include:

Tdap (Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Petussis [Whooping Cough]):

The Tdap shot is available for adults (ages 18-64).  If you have NOT had a tetanus vaccination in the past 2 years, you would be encouraged to receive this immunization.  The Tdap is covered by HealthPartners, BlueCross BlueShield, Medica and PreferredOne at the member's benefit level; Homeland Health Specialists will be able to submit to these specified insurance vendors only.   If you do not have insurance through these noted vendors, the cost for the Tdap is $55.00 and will need to be paid in cash at the time of administration.

Consent forms will be available at Great Hall on the clinic dates; this year's consent forms are not available in advance.

We encourage your participation and recommend you wear short sleeves on the day of immunization.

Please note that only two vaccinations per person are permitted.

Appointments are not required.
