Employee Assistance Program-Faculty Orientation

The orientation serves to acquaint faculty at Carleton College with the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) and how to access the program.

The orientation serves to acquaint faculty at Carleton College with the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) and how to access the program.The following information is included:

1. To identify and explain the purpose and function of the EAP and the services offered.
2. The kinds of problems the service is able to assist with, e.g. family problems, health and wellness, legal assistance, elder care, child care, supervisory consultations, etc.
3. Program availability, 24-hours-per-day/7-days-per-week.
4. What an employee needs to do to make use of the service, i.e. how to make an appointment, how to obtain information or assistance over the phone, and how to reach a counselor when the office is closed.
5. The confidential and voluntary nature of the program.
6. The fact that the EAP is paid for by Carleton College and is of no cost to the employee.
7. A supervisor's ability to suggest that an employee make use of the EAP, based on that employee's job performance or apparent stress or for consultation on specific issues.
8. To educate supervisors to recognize early warning signs of deteriorating work performance indicative of substance abuse or other problems
