Temporary Psychologist (Intermittent/Temporary/Part-Time)

Carleton College welcomes applicants for the position of Temporary Psychologist for the Wellness Center. This is a temporary, somewhat intermittent, non-exempt, part-time (.24) FTE staff position that will end June 30, 2010. This position is not eligible for the College’s benefits program.
Purpose of this Position:
The Temporary Psychologist will provide general counseling services to students at Carleton College. Responsibilities include: intakes, individual counseling, crisis intervention, and documentation of all clinical contacts. Counselors in The Wellness Center also act as an advocate or liaison between the students and other campus staff and faculty, as well as community providers, and parents. The Temporary Psychologist will report to the Interim Director of the Wellness Center.
Responsibilities:
- Provide intake assessments, individual counseling, group counseling, crisis intervention, and document all clinical contacts.
- See clients for ongoing individual counseling within a short-term model.
- Conduct intake assessments and refer to appropriate resources as needed.
- Maintain emergency appointment times that can be utilized by students in crisis.
- Operate as part of a multidisciplinary clinical team in activities including staff meetings, consultations, referrals, and treatment.
- Consult as necessary with faculty and staff regarding student mental health issues.
Temporary psychologist is not responsible for supervising other staff. Consultation with doctoral-level psychologist colleagues is available. If employee is unlicensed, supervision from a doctoral-level psychologist is available.
Minimum Qualifications:
Required:
- Master’s degree in a counseling field required (at minimum).
- This position is subject to required background screenings and previous employment checks.
- Generalist skills in working with depression, anxiety, and family of origin issues are required.
- Strong level of confidentiality required.
Preferred:
- Ph.D. or Psy.D. in counseling/clinical psychology strongly preferred.
- Experience with eating disorders and substance abuse desirable.
- Applicants with previous college counseling experience are strongly preferred.
