Temporary Nurse Practitioner (Temporary/Intermittent/Part-Time)

Carleton College welcomes applicants for Temporary Nurse Practitioner. This position is a temporary (part-time), non-exempt, staff position with intermittent, need-based hours until June 30, 2010. This position is not eligible for the College’s benefits program.
Purpose of this Position:
The Temporary Nurse Practitioner position is designed to provide primary health care to college students (18-24 year olds) independently, and in a collaborative team environment. The clinician provides health services and preventative care to individuals and groups. The Temporary Nurse Practitioner will report to the Interim Director of the Wellness Center.
Responsibilities:
- Comprehensive assessment, physical exam, ordering, conducting, and interpreting diagnostic tests, prescription of pharmacologic agents and treatments, and non-pharmacologic therapies.
- Consult and make referrals to physicians and other members of health team as appropriate.
- Sensitivity to multicultural issues and needs of college-age students.
- Must be able to establish and maintain working relationships with college students, their parents, the Wellness Center team, Division of Student Life and the Carleton College community.
Minimum Qualifications:
Required:
- Basic Education: RN.
- Formal Training: Must have successful completion of a master’s program in nursing or post-graduate program in nursing, specific to the area of advanced practice nursing or meet the education requirements for certification by a national nurse certification organization acceptable to the Minnesota Board of Nursing for advanced practice nursing
- Board Certification: Must be Board Certified by a national nurse certification organization acceptable to the Minnesota Board of Nursing and specific to the area in which you practice.
- Licensure: Must hold a current Minnesota RN license in good standing.
- Current Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) license.
- Comprehensive understanding of advanced practice nursing and nurse practitioner’s care or physician assistant principles, methods, and procedures.
- Knowledge of uses and effects of medications relevant to college-age students, including experience in musculoskeletal and reproductive care in an ambulatory setting.
- Self motivated learner and commitment to maintenance/growth of clinical skills, knowledge base and differential diagnosis through continuing education, self-study, and on-site quality assurance activities.
- Must possess strong interpersonal, communication, and human relations skills.
- Exhibit a genuine interest in relating to and serving a college population.
- Excellent organizational ability.
- CPR certification.
- Must be able to work independently (without direct supervision), according to established guidelines and protocols.
Preferred:
- Two or more years of progressive, broad work experience in general medicine in an ambulatory setting preferred.
- Experience in college health environment desirable.
- An interest or experience in working with students who have eating disorders is desired.
- Awareness of community resources helpful.
