Coordinator of Disability Services for Students

    Carleton College welcomes applicants for the position of Coordinator of Disability Services for Students in the Wellness Center.  This is a regular, full-time, ten month, exempt, benefits eligible position.

    Purpose of this Position:

    This Coordinator of Disability Services for Students is responsible for the coordination and provision of all disability services for students at the Carleton College campus.  This position also oversees compliance with ADA and section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, advocates for students in disability-related matters, and provides consultation to faculty and staff as needed. The Coordinator of Disability Services for Students will report to the Interim Director of the Wellness Center.

     

    Responsibilities:

    • Determining appropriate accommodations for students with documented disabilities, including: collecting and reviewing documentation, determining eligibility under ADA, evaluating student needs and allocating appropriate resources.
    • Work one-on-one with students offering assistance with time management, study skills, self-advocacy, and assistive technology training.
    • Facilitate communication and problem solving between faculty, staff, and students with disabilities on access and accommodation issues.  Assist with training on disabilities for faculty and peer leaders.
    • Proctor exams for students requiring specific academic accommodations.
    • Perform screenings and provide testing for students with foreign language learning difficulties.
    • Serve as a liaison for disability awareness across campus.
    • Maintain/update disability information for The Wellness Center website.
    • Interface with parents of students/prospective students.  Offer information to current and prospective students regarding disabilities or learning difficulties.
    • Stay abreast of federal and state legislation regarding ADA and accommodation issues.
    • Working knowledge of assistive technology (i.e., Kurzweil).  Ongoing monitoring of campus assistive technology needs and collaboration with ITS department at Carleton.
    • Maintain records and communications in compliance with confidentiality and legal regulations.
    • Interface with the Academic Support Center regarding the provision of academic support skills for students.
    • Implement annual outreach efforts regarding disability awareness on campus.

     

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Required:

    • Minimum of Bachelors Degree and 5 years minimum of related experience in special education, educational psychology, licensed teacher or similar background. 
    • Knowledge of ADA/Section 504 requirements and regulations.
    • Excellent interpersonal, communication (oral and written), counseling, and administrative skills required. 
    • Proficiency in Microsoft programs. 

    Preferred:

    • Masters Degree preferred in rehabilitation counseling, social work, counseling, or education and 5 years minimum of related experience in special education, educational psychology, licensed teacher or similar background. 
    • Experience working with students with disabilities in a culturally diverse environment.
