Ta'Sierra Johnson
Hello new class of Carls!!!!! I hope you are just as excited to come to Carleton as I am for you to be arriving. My name is Ta’Sierra Johnson, and I am a sophomore from Chicago, Illinois. I am pretty sure I am going to major in English, but as you soon will find out things like that change all the time at Carleton. I am a member of Black Student Alliance here at Carleton and I also enjoy spending time with my friends in the limited amount of spare time that I have. I am usually around campus at any given time of the day where I do not have class. I should be easy to spot: just look for the big red afro and that is me. Stop me at any time, and I will be more than happy to help you with any questions you may have. Can’t wait to see you guys!!!!!
What are the academics at Carleton?
This is a very difficult question because the academics at Carleton are so varied. Our classes are definitely difficult. However, they are manageable with organization and hard work. Although the classes are hard, they are also fun and exciting. There are very few days that I dread going to class which makes it easier for me to handle the work load. Our professors are very helpful and so are the students. If there is ever anything you need help with, there is someone out there that can and will help you. That’s what we are here for.
How does one manage time at Carleton?
Time management is the key to success here. My piece of advice is to start off slow the first term. Focus on your studies first, and don’t commit yourself to a large number of clubs. It is important to feel out the level of rigor. After this, commit to as many clubs as you can handle: don’t overextend yourself. I know that I keep saying to stay focused on your studies, but it is important to also find time for yourself. Go to Hogan Brothers with your friends (the sandwiches are great) or go to a sports game every once in a while. Without this you will burn out by fifth week, which is something you do not want to do. You can also hang out with us or other people in OIIL!!!!
