Wisdom Akpan

Heyo! My name is Wisdom Akpan, and I’m a rising sophomore. I was born in Nigeria and moved to St. Louis, MO in 1999. I haven’t declared a major yet but if I had to bet on I’m planning on it being Chemistry since I dream of one day making discoveries in the field of materials science. I’m the treasurer of Firebellies Carleton’s culinary group and a board member of the diversity group Men of Carleton. I’m also routinely involved with the Black Students Alliance, The Carl Newspaper, The Carleton Graphic, and the Juggling Club. Gotta a question? Hit me up at akpanw@carleton.edu.

1. What excites you about being at Carleton?

What I love is the fact that there’s opportunity everywhere. No matter what you want to do you’ll either find someone to do it with or the resources to do it yourself. There’s a near infinite network of students, faculty, and alumni from whom you can benefit from as well all sorts of clubs and groups with whom you can collaborate with to accomplish whatever goal you desire. It’s actually pretty cool.

2. What is something you wish you had been better prepared for before arriving to Carleton?

Everybody complains about the winters here but to be honest you can’t actually be prepared enough for it. It gets really really cold in Minnesota.
