Proud Chanarat

HI! My name is Proud Chanarat, and I’m from Samutprakarn, Thailand. I’m a rising sophomore, and still trying out many new subjects and activities that Carleton has to offer. I was in competitive artistic gymnastics for 9 years in Thailand, and brought several skills from that to lead Karl-Pop, a new K-Pop dance group on campus. I also have a passion for hiking and climbing mountains. Since high school, I have climbed many mountains around the world, including an attempt on Everest. If any of you want to talk to me about anything, I would love to talk to you and listen to your own unique stories!

1. What excites you about being at Carleton?

I experienced Carleton through the screen throughout my college decision-making process, and the friendliness of the students and of the community shone through. When I came to Carleton for the first time during International Students’ Orientation, the friendly vibe was there, most people were really nice and I felt very welcome in a new place. Also, most students here study and work together to help each other learn, which is what I really like about the collaborative nature of the community. Also, the arb is really pretty and great for a nature getaway :)

2. What is something you wish you had been better prepared for, before arriving at Carleton?

I wish I knew the details for first term’s class registration. I was very clueless about class registration freshman fall term, so I registered around one day later than my registration time. I also wish I was better prepared for diversity issues on campus because I wasn’t aware of them until winter term my freshman year. Therefore, if you have any questions regarding anything, please ask me or any OPL so we could make things more clear for you!
