PPP Dial-in Policy
What is PPP Dial-In?
PPP dial-in is a service which provides graphical Internet access to Carleton students, faculty and academic staff from their personally owned computers, in their places of residence, via residential telephone lines. In order to use the service, you must have a relatively current computer with a modem (at least 28.8 bps is recommended). This service will work with either Macintosh or Windows based computers.Policy
1. ITS' PPP dial-in service is for use by students, faculty (including emeriti) and academic staff for Carleton academic and work-required purposes only.2. Your dial-in account is for your exclusive use. Under no circumstances may you allow others to use your account.
3. Based upon software licenses that we have obtained, ITS will provide you with network software to enable your computer for PPP dial-in access to the Carleton network. This software is for your exclusive use, for Carleton academic and work-required purposes only.
- Working from instructions provided, you are responsible for installing the software on your computer, and for reconfiguring your computer if needed in order for the PPP software to run. ITS staff can answer questions you may have about software installation and use, but they are not available to do the installation for you.
- You, of course, are responsible for the overall configuration and operation of your personally owned computer.
4. Carleton faculty and staff desiring PPP service for members of their households are directed to an ISP (Internet Service Provider) in your local dialing area.
5. Your use of your dial-in account is otherwise governed by the provisions of The Carleton College Academic User Agreement.
