ITS has negotiated a contract to provide antivirus software for all faculty, staff and student computers, both College-owned and personal. You can have a free copy of McAfee VirusScan for your Windows or Macintosh computers. These programs will both protect you from getting new computer viruses and remove any viruses that may already be lurking on your computer.

 Virus Data Updates

When new viruses are discovered, updates for VirusScan are published. The version of VirusScan for Mac you get from this site (currently version 8.6 in Feb, 2009)) will automatically download and install updates for VirusScan after you have successfully installed VirusScan for Mac.

Windows: McAfee VirusScan

This file is a self extracting installer. After you've downloaded the VirusScan installer, just run McAfeeVirusScan870.exe from the directory into which you downloaded it.

For Windows 2000, XP, Vista, and Windows 7:

Download VirusScan + AntiSpyware 8.70:

• VirusScan (71M)

Download the archive and run to install the application. The installation runs silently; wait at least 10 minutes (until SetupVSE.exe ends) to see it finish.  This installer removes any other security applications, including Windows Defender.

After installation, if any settings appear to be wrong (e.g., Access Protection is enabled, On-Access Scan lists no exclusions), then use Control Panel->Add or Remove Programs to uninstall the 3 McAfee applications (AntiSpyware then VirusScan then Agent), then again run McAfeeVirusScan870.exe from the directory into which you downloaded it.  The second installation fixes all configuration errors.

When new viruses are discovered, updates for VirusScan are published. This program will automatically download and install updates at least once a day. However, you should periodically check to make sure that you have the most current update, or you may be susceptible to a new virus.
