Internet2 is a consortium of research and educational institutions, providing members with high-speed networks supporting the next generation of internetworking applications. Carleton is a member of a consortium of Minnesota private colleges who have been sponsored by the University of Minnesota for Internet2 access.

The consortium shares a Gigabit Ethernet (1000 Mbps) connection to the University of Minnesota. Carleton maintains a 500 Mbps connection which carries both its Internet2 traffic as well as its commodity Internet subscription. The majority of that 500 Mbps is available for Internet2 traffic. In practice, we have much less traffic bound for Internet2 than for the commodity Internet.
