Wireless Networking at Carleton
Wireless access to the Carleton network is widely available across campus. It is available to students, faculty, staff and guests.
Carleton faculty, students and staff should use the eduroam wireless network. (See instructions below.)
Carleton guests who use eduroam wireless at their own institution will be automatically connected to eduroam while using the college wireless. (No further instructions are needed.)
Carleton guests who do NOT use "eduroam" wireless at their own institution should use the wireless network named "Carleton Guest." (See instructions below.)
If you have a Carleton username and password, configure your computer or handheld device to use the eduroam wireless network. This wireless network is secure and encrypted with the 802.1x security protocol, and provides access to the Internet and all Carleton computing resources.
Follow these instructions to configure your computer or mobile device to use the eduroam network.
IF you are a guest of the College and if you do NOT use "eduroam" at your own institution and if you do not have a Carleton username and password, then you can use the wireless network named "Carleton Guest". This network is open and is not encrypted; transmissions across the network are NOT secure. It provides access to the Internet and some Carleton computing resources.
Follow these instructions to configure your computer or mobile device to use the Carleton guest network.
Turn on the wireless on your computer, then start a web browser and try to go to your home page. If you haven't already registered your computer or device on our network, you'll be redirected to a page that will walk you through the registration process. The procedures allow guests to self-register their computers on the wireless network named "Carleton Guest".
Once your computer or device is registered correctly and connected to our wireless, you can expect wireless services to work the same at Carleton as if you were at your own home or hotel.
(Note: Unauthenticated SMTP port 25 is blocked at Carleton, as it is at most places.)
If you have any difficulties with the wireless network on campus, please contact the ITS helpdesk at 507-222-5999 (on-campus phones, x5999), or via email at email@example.com.
