• Linux server and SAN updates
  • A variety of minor security updates will be applied to most campus Linux servers, including web, email, and core network infrastructure. No outages are planned, but due to the number of systems affected, I'll be on campus.

Thursday, October 16th

• Luncheon ITS Workshop: Excel 2007, 2008
  • This week we will take a look at the new Microsoft Excel. We will talk about both spreadsheets and graphs; how to use formulas, how to create and edit graphs, how to make and use Pivot Tables, how to sort data, and more! This will be on an introductory level, but we can tailor these luncheons on your ideas and questions.

Friday, October 17th

• NetWare server patching
  • NetWare security patches will be applied to all NetWare servers. The work will start at 6:00 p.m. and should be done by 7:00 p.m. but it may last longer. With the NetWare patching, the only thing that users should notice is brief interruptions as resources/volumes (such as collab, home, and other volumes) migrate from one host to another. They may also notice very short authentication "blips" but the work should be mostly transparent.
  • 6:00 pm
• Compellent Storage Updates
  • Software update and disk space upgrade for the Compellent Storage Area Network. This work should cause no user-evident downtime. Compellent storage is used for most servers installed or upgraded within the last year, including (but certainly not limited to) Zimbra, Advance, R+, Colleague, and OneCard.

• Email outage and Zimbra 5.0.10 update
  • Zimbra will be unavailable for upgrade to 5.0.10 the morning of Sunday, October 19, which is mid-term break.
