Zayo, one of the companies that provides Internet Service to Carleton, is going to perform maintenance on their systems early in the morning of July 3rd. If all goes as planned, there will be no loss of service during this maintenance period. Read more below if you are interested in the details.
Carleton now has 2 Internet Service Providers (ISPs), and each one has its own fiber optic cable system connecting Carleton to the wider Internet. One company is called Zayo, and the other is called Cogent.
Zayo will be performing maintenance on their system between 12:00 midnight and 5:00 am on Tuesday, July 3rd. Sometime during that window of time, they will cut their service to Carleton for approximately 30 minutes. No Internet traffic will flow on Zayo's system between Carleton and the wider Internet during that 30 minute period.
Our other ISP, Cogent, will automatically keep Carleton connected to the Internet (both I1 and I2) during Zayo's maintenance. The transition from one ISP to the other should be quick and seamless, with no planned disruption of service. Both incoming and outgoing Internet traffic should continue.
If you have any questions about this maintenance, please contact the ITS helpdesk at 507-222-5999 (on campus x 5999), or via email at helpdesk@carleton.edu.
