Student Computing Support

For more current information, see our new page on Carlpedia.

Student Computing is part of the Carleton Technology Assistance and Knowledge (C-TAK) team, providing technical support to Carleton's student body, including support for public labs, residential network and personal computer equipment.  Our center of operations is the Student Computing Information Center (SCIC), located in the CMC.  Along with the Reference Librarians, we also jointly staff the Research/IT desk in the Gould Library.

The SCIC is staffed by R Kevin Chapman, along with approximately forty student staff.

What do I need to know?

Please contact the SCIC at x4040 for immediate and general computer support.  The help desk and our help lines are staffed with student workers during our operating hours noted below.  If you have an urgent or immediate need, please call us or stop by. You can also send email to SCIC@carleton.edu which is answered by the full-time staff members Monday thru Friday, 8:30am - 5:00pm.

The focus of the SCIC includes:

  • Solving all problems and responding to all questions that we receive.  If we are unable to provide you with an immediate answer, we will follow-up with you as soon as possible.
  • Maintain functional and easy-to-use public lab spaces by ensuring that equipment is functional, clean and well maintained, and by repairing or replacing faulty equipment.
  • Re-aligning our services to better meet the changing tech demands of the student body, as part of a campus-wide coordinated support model.
  • Improving the communication of problem status.
