Network configuration
Once you’ve plugged in, you may need to change a few settings to tell your computer that it’s on the network.
Windows XP/2000
- Choose Start > Control Panel
- Double-click Network Connections
- Double-click Local Area Connection
- Click on Properties
- Select Internet Properties (TCP/IP) and click the Properties button.
- Verify that your IP address and DNS server are obtained "automatically", close all windows.
Windows 98/ME
- Choose Start > Settings > Control Panels
- Double-click the Network control panel
- Choose the TCP/IP protocol that mentions "Ethernet"
- Click Properties and make sure your IP address and DNS server are being obtained “automatically”, close all windows
Mac OS X
- Choose System Preferences... from the Apple menu.
- Click on the Network icon.
- Choose Built-in Ethernet from the Show menu at the top of the panel.
- Select the TCP/IP tab and choose Using DHCP from the Configure menu.
- Close the System Preferences window.
Mac OS 8 or 9
- Choose Control Panels > TCP/IP from the Apple menu.
- Choose Ethernet from the Connect via: menu at the top.
- Choose Using DHCP Server from the Configure: menu.
- Make sure the Use 802.3 checkbox is unchecked, if present.
- Close the TCP/IP control panel
