Anti-Virus Software

ITS has negotiated a contract to provide antivirus software for all faculty, staff and student computers, both College-owned and personal. You can have a free copy of McAfee VirusScan for your Windows computers or Dr. Solomon's Virex for your Macintoshes. These programs will both protect you from getting new computer viruses and remove any viruses that may already be lurking on your computer.

Use the links below to download your own copy. NOTE: These links will only work for authenticated Carleton Faculty, Staff and Students of Carleton.

Macintosh: Virex

These files are encoded and compressed -- if they don't get automatically uncompressed when you download them, use Stuffit Expander to open them.

Download the zip file installer:

Virus Data Updates

When new viruses are discovered, updates for Virex are published. You should periodically check to make sure that you have the most current update, or you may be susceptible to a new virus.

To update your Virex, visit the Virex download site and download the DAT File for Virex 8.x.

Windows: McAfee VirusScan

This file is a self extracting installer. After you've downloaded the VirusScan installer, just run McAfeeVirusScan850.exe from the directory into which you downloaded it.

For Windows 2000, XP and Vista

Download VirusScan + AntiSpyware 8.50:

Download the archive and run to install the application. The installation runs silently; wait at least 10 minutes to see it finish.

Virus Data Updates

When new viruses are discovered, updates for VirusScan are published. This program will automatically download and install updates at least once a day from Carleton's repository. However, you should periodically check to make sure that you have the most current update, or you may be susceptible to a new virus.
