United Nations

  • United Nations Home Page Home page of the UN, this site provides access to organizational pages, publications, documents, databases and other kinds of information. Also includes links to UNESCO, FAO, WHO & other UN organizations.
  • Official Web Site Locator for the UN System of Organizations This site is used to locate specific sites within the UN system. It includes an alphabetical index, frequently requested information, and instructions and tools for searching the UN system.
  • United Nations Scholars' Workstation (Yale University) Includes information, data, and finding aids concerning disarmament, economic & social development, environment, human rights, international relations & trade, peacekeeping, and population/demography. Useful for all types of research involving the UN.
  • UN Agencies: Documents Provides access to full-text of UN parliamentary documents, resolutions/decisions from the General Assembly, the Security Council & the Economic and Socal Council, speeches, press releases, and other assorted documents.
  • InfoNation Containing information from the UN Statistics Division, this site allows users to compare basic statistical data collected from all 185 member nations. Includes geographical, economic, demographic, and social indicators data.

European Union

  • Europa (EU home page) This site offers links to the various member organizations, provides policy information, and includes some publications.
  • EU at Princeton Provides a lengthy list of EU-related sites including documents, research findings, statistics, directories, databases, and other kinds of information produced by the EU, as well as other independent organizations.
  • The European Union in the U.S. Produced by the EU, this site includes numerous resources concerning EU policies, the U.S. delegation, online documents, links to other web sites, legislation, and other pertinent information.

International Organizations

  • International Agencies and Information on the Web (Michigan) A thoroughly annotated directory of international agencies and organizations. Includes links to other comprehensive sites, an alphabetical listing of agencies, links to sites concerning international treaties, and other related international information. An excellent resource for international agency information.
  • Information on Intergovernmental Organizations (IGO's) and Law (MSU) Provides a subject arrangement of various IGO's organized by topics such as the environment, human rights, women's rights, culture, and several others. While some of the resources are specific to MSU, many links to web sites are also included.
  • International Monetary Fund (IMF) Home page of the IMF, the site provides information about the organization, various publications, and some full-text Working Papers online.
  • Organization for Economic Co-operation & Development (OECD) Provides information about the organization and its activities, statistics, and some full-text documents pertaining to the OECD and development issues.
  • The World Bank Contains extensive information on development topics and programs, country and regional information, and partnerships between the World Bank and other organzations.

Statistics and Data Sets

  • International Data Base (US Census Bureau) Database created by the U.S. Census Bureau containing downloadable statistical tables of demographic and socio-economic data for all countries of the world.
  • Statistical Data Locators Arranged by continent and country, this site provides a detailed list of links to major statistical sources within each country. Also includes a number of international sources.
  • Statistical Resources on the Web (Carleton - ACNS) A detailed site including a large number of links to sites containing statistics and data sets in the social sciences. Includes useful annotations; compiled by Paula Lackie, Academic Computing.
  • Statistical Agencies (International) Compiled by the US Census Bureau, this site provides an alphabetical list of foreign statistical agencies arranged by country name.
  • Statistical Resources on the Web (University of Michigan) Includes a wealth of statistical data, arranged topically. Some international and foreign data are listed separately, while others are included in the subject categories.
  • CIESIN Compiled by a non-profit, non-governmental organization, this site provides access to numerous metadata and data resources available online. Topics include issues of demography, environment, development, and economics.
  • Infonation Containing information from the UN Statistics Division, this site allows users to compare statistical data collected from all 185 member nations. Includes geographical, economic, demographic, and social indicators data.

Countries

  • Country Studies/Area Handbooks Produced by the Library of Congress, the site includes downloadable text, graphics, photographs, tables, glossaries, maps, charts, and bibliographies for 85 countries. Information focuses on the political, economic, social, and cultural factors for each country.
  • World Factbook (CIA) Downloadable 1997 version of the publication containing information, maps, and data on most countries of the world.
  • Foreign Government Information (University of Colorado) Includes an extensive list of links arranged by a variety of subjects.
  • Foreign Government Resources on the Web (University of Michigan) Part of Michigan's online Document Center, this site provides information arranged by country and by topic. A very extensive site and useful for most types of research involving foreign governments.
  • Governments on the WWW A database of governmental institutions on the web, this site includes information about parliaments, ministries, offices, law courts, embassies, city councils, public broadcasting corporations, central banks, multi-national organizations, etc. Some of the institutions are arranged by subject, as well.

Demography and Population

Documents

  • Avalon Project (Yale Law School) The site of a project developed to mount digital documents relevant to the fields of law, history, economics, politics, diplomacy and government. Additionally, the project aims to link the various texts to other supporting documents. Includes pre-18th century through 20th century documents.
  • Latin American & Caribbean Government Documents Project (Cornell University) An ongoing project designed to organize and describe official documents from Latin America, the site includes statistical, executive, ministerial, legislative, judicial, and subnational documents.
  • UN Documentation: Full-text Options Provides full-text of UN parliamentary documents, resolutions/decisions from the General Assembly, the Security Council and the Economic and Socal Council, speeches, press releases, and other assorted documents.
  • Constitutions This site provides the full-text constitutions of approximately 16 countries, including countries in Europe, Asia & Latin America.
