Publicizing the Census

Because census data is of critical importance to government and non-profit agencies and businesses, an accurate count is essential. To ensure a complete count, the Census Agency works years in advance of each decennial to check addresses, recruit workers, and conduct outreach to ensure all citizens are aware of the census and the benefits it offers communities. The multiplicity of communications strategies reflects the agency’s efforts to reach diverse communities- from members of ethnic and racial groups, to elderly “snow birds,” to immigrants, to college students.
