ARTstor OIV now compatible with Mac OS 10.8
February 7, 2013A new version of ARTstor’s Offline Image Viewer (OIV) for Mac OS X 10.7 and OS X 10.8 is now available for download. This version includes all the features of the previous release.
New Online Resource: ebrary Academic Complete eBooks Collection
September 26, 2012All faculty, students and staff from Carleton now have access to nearly 80,000 electronic editions of current academic books (2005-present) in a wide range of subjects through the online resource ebrary.
To access ebrary books, simply search the Bridge catalog as you would for any other book and then click the "Click for CARLETON access" link, or go directly to ebrary and search there.

eReserves down for maintenance starting August 9

Algol Yearbooks Added to Carleton Digital Collections
May 24, 2012The Carleton College Gould Library and Archives announce the addition of the Algol yearbooks to its Digital Collections. Named for the variable star, Algol, and published by Carleton students, the Algol yearbooks present a unique student perspective on campus life. Text and photographs document campus events and personalities. Replete with photographs, many editions also employ prose, poetry, and illustration to tell a detailed history of the academic year. While the Algol appeared sporadically during its early years, it became an annual volume starting in 1923.
Presented in high-resolution scans, the Algols can be searched for specific people, places or events. Students, faculty, staff, and alumnae can freely access the digitized Algol at http://apps.carleton.edu/digitalcollections/algol/ where they can browse through the editions or search by keyword. Carleton College’s complete Digital Collections can be accessed at http://apps.carleton.edu/digitalcollections/. Off campus access requires login.

New Online Video Collection (with 13,000 Titles) Available
February 15, 2012The library has just subscribed to a collection of 12,000 online videos called Academic Video Online. It contains films and documentaries of all kinds across all academic subjects, from political campaign commercials to anthropological field recordings, from full opera performances to historical newsreels, from psychological counseling session demonstrations to filmed plays, and everything else in between. You can access it directly at http://vasc.alexanderstreet.com.ezproxy.carleton.edu/ or just look for Academic Video Online among the databases listings on the library's website.
PsycINFO and PsycARTICLES Databases Now on the EBSCO Platform
January 3, 2012After consultation with faculty in the Psychology department and with the Reference and Instruction librarians, Gould Library has switched from the ProQuest platform for the databases PsycINFO and PsycARTICLES to the EBSCO platform

General reference and resource discovery tool that provides access to hundreds of subject encyclopedias, dictionaries, biographical information, images, bibliographies, and links to journal articles, books, and online sources - Social Explorer
Quick and easy access to current and historical U.S. census data and demographic information. - Oxford Bibliographies Online
Authoritative, up-to-date bibliographies for starting research in several different fields. Currently available fields include: Atlantic History, Biblical Studies, Buddhism, Classics, Communication, Criminology, Hinduism, International Relations, Islamic Studies, Medieval Studies, Philosophy, Public Health, Renaissance and Reformation, Social Work Social Work, and Victorian Literature. - Digital Sanborn Maps 1867-1970
More than 660,000 large-scale historical maps of more than 12,000 towns and cities in the United States. Created for the purpose of estimating the potential fire risk for urban structures, the maps include information such as the outlines of buildings; building size, shape, and materials of construction; heights and function of structures; and locations of windows and doors. The maps also give street names, street and sidewalk widths, property boundaries, building use, and house and block numbers. - Archives Unbound
