Early Map Facsimile Collection
This collection provides Carleton students with an opportunity to visualize an expanding European conception of the known world. The time period covered, 1375 to the middle of the 16th century, coincides with the Age of Exploration and Discovery. By examining facsimiles of maps produced at regular intervals throughout that period and comparing what does or does not appear on these maps, students are able to follow the chronology of Europe's encounter with the rest of the world.
