Where do I retrieve my packages at Carleton?

Packages are stored in multiple locations due to the high volume of packages shipped to Carleton by students at the start of the academic year.

A package pick-up slip will be placed in your assigned mail box the day a package arrives.
- Your package pick-up slip will include pick-up location details.
- An alphabetical list of assigned student mail boxes is posted outside of the Campus Post Office located in the lobby of Sayles-Hill.

You will have to transport your own boxes from the Campus Post Office or a temporary storage location to your housing.
- Do not send boxes larger/heavier than you can carry across campus.
- Consider investing in a compact rolling luggage cart available for about $20 at most discount stores.

What is the best way to ship my personal belongings?

New student shipments must not arrive on campus prior to August 15.

We recommend UPS ground service due to how packages are received and processed at Carleton. The maximum weight the Campus Post Office will accept is 70 pounds per package.

Do not ship a box larger or heavier than the student can carry comfortably to their dorm. Consider investing in a compact rolling luggage cart available for about $20 at most discount stores.

Boxes should be firmly packed and taped with reinforced tape. Do not use rope, twine, or masking tape on packages. Boxes should be corrugated with cushioning around items.

Package pick-up slips will be placed in your student mail box located in the lobby of Sayles-Hill with instructions on where to pick up the package(s). An alphabetical list of assigned student mail boxes is posted in the lobby outside of the Campus Post Office. Mail boxes are unlocked and open to the lobby.

Carleton College cannot assume responsibility for items stolen or damaged during shipment or while in storage. Therefore, make sure all of your items are insured for both delivery and after arrival at the College.

Check with a bike shop near your home. Some bike shops will package a bike for shipping for a fee.

UPS will ship a bicycle that is already properly packaged.
