About the Club

The Carleton College Women's Rugby Football Club (CWRFC) was founded in 1978 by student Pixie Newman as the first women's rugby club in Minnesota. We are still going strong today, with up to thirty women on our roster, depending on the season. A rugby team has fifteen different positions to accomodate women of all shapes, so anyone interested in challenging themself to try a new sport and have a good time doing it is welcome and encouraged to come out and play with us.

Rugby at Carleton can meet the needs of the most serious of athletes (D-III National Track champions, leading basketball scorers, softball pitchers (i mean, we acccept other positions as well, but we pitchers are just so cool), All-American swimmers, soccer stars) to athletes who don't want the time commitment of a varsity sport, to average women just looking for something new and fun to try. While a few of our players have experience playing rugby prior to Carleton, the majority are newcomers to the sport. Feel free to join us in the fall or spring...we start each season going over the basics and getting reacquainted with the game.
