IM Soccer Rules
IM Indoor Soccer Rules
- All games shall be played at the Rec. Center.
- The playing surface will be approximately 38 yards long and 23 yards wide with outdoor soccer boundary rules (i.e. ball must fully cross the line to be out of play) and indoor soccer goals placed on each end-line.
- Each indoor soccer team shall field no more than five people at one time (3 boys-2 girls) or (3 girls-2 boys).
- There may be one goalie of either sex for a total of six players on the field. No varsity goalies may play goalie.
- Softcore /Midcore teams may only play with 1 varsity boy or 2 varsity girls on the field at a time.
- Hardcore teams may play with 2 varsity boys, 3 varsity girls, or 1 varsity boy-2 varsity girls on the field at a time.
- Varsity = a player who was on the Carleton varsity roster during the last fall soccer season.
- A game shall consist of two continuous 25 minute halves, with a five minute warm up and a five minute half-time. The clock will only be stopped when there is an injury which requires stoppage of play. Games that start late cannot last longer than the hour allotted to them.
- There are no refs, so call your own fouls. The IM monitor on duty has final say over any disputed call between players or captains.
- Draws are draws, overtime will only be played in the playoffs.
- Substitutions may be made on the fly as in ice hockey.
- There is no offside rule.
- Profanity and unsportsmanlike behavior will receive one warning from the IM monitor. If the behavior continues, the monitor reserves the right to eject a player from the game and the player will not be able to continue that season of IM Indoor Soccer.
- The fundamental rules of outdoor soccer apply in indoor soccer--i.e. no handballs, tripping, hitting, fouling, etc.
- In addition, slide tackles are not allowed.
- Direct Free Kick awarded for:
Kicking, tripping, jumping at opponent, pushing, holding, charging, handling the ball.
- Indirect Free Kick awarded for:
Goalkeeper taking more than six seconds, dangerous play, obstruction other than holding, and slide tackle.
- Give 12 feet (4 paces) on all free kicks.
- A kick-in rather than a throw-in is awarded:
- when the whole of the ball passes over a touch line, either on the round or in the air, or hits the ceiling
- from the place where it crossed the touch line
- to the opponents of the player who last touched the ball
- A goal cannot be scored directly from a kick-in
- Position of the ball and the players:
- The ball:
- has to be stationary on the touch line
- is kicked back into play in any direction
- The player taking the kick-in:
- has part of each foot either on the touch line or on the ground outside the touch line at the moment of kicking the ball.
- The players of the defending team:
- are at least 12ft (4 paces) from the place where the kick-in is taken.
- The player taking the kick-in must do so within 4 seconds of taking possession of the ball.
- The player taking the kick-in may not play the ball a second time until it has touched another player.
- The ball is in play immediately after it is kicked or touched.
- Goal kick :
- A goal kick is awarded when:
- the whole of the ball, having last touched a player of the attacking team, passes over the goal line, either on the ground, or in the air, and a goal is not scored in accordance.
- From inside the penalty area, the goalkeeper kicks the ball into play.
- The ball is not in play until it has passed outside of the penalty area. If the goal clearance is received inside of the penalty area, the goal clearance shall be taken over.
- Corner Kick:
- Ball is placed on the corner (no corner-kick arc). If ball is misplaced, the corner kick is taken over.
- The kicker cannot play the ball a second time until it has been played b another player; infringement of this rule entails an indirect free kick to the opposing team from the point of infringement.
- Players on the opposing team must be at least 12 ft (4 paces) away from point of the corner kick.
- A goal can be scored directly from a corner kick.
- The ball must cross completely over the plane of the goal.
- It is the responsibility of each captain to record their team score regardless of win, loss, or draw to the online forum on Caucus. A game played without a score entered will be treated as a forfeit.
Team Roster and Eligibility
- Final roster needs to be submitted to the Czar by end of the second week of league play.
- Players are only eligible to play on one softcore team, one midcore team, and one hardcore team during the playoffs.
- Only 15 team members are eligible for a championship t-shirt.
- Players must have played in 2 of the league games with their respective team in order to play with them in the playoffs.
- Playoff Overtime Rules:
- In the case of a draw after the first two 25 minute halves during a playoff game, there will be two 5 minute overtime halves (golden goal).
- You may substitute on the fly until the last minute of the second overtime half, keeping the team gender/varsity arrangements consistent with regular time rules.
- In the case of a draw after the two 5 minute overtime halves, penalty kicks will take place.
- Only players that finished the last overtime half on the field may take the first kicks.
- There will be five penalty kicks from each team (with any gender/varsity variation), and the winner after that series of kicks may claim the victory.
- If there is a draw after the first five kicks, then the sixth player on the field (including goalies) must take the next kick. After that, additional players (of either sex/varsity status) from the side line may take the next kicks. This series of kicks will win by a golden goal whereby one team makes a penalty kick and the other does not.
- Only once all players on the team have taken a kick, then you may recycle penalty kickers (with any gender/varsity variation).
