First-Time Stafford and PLUS Borrowers

First-Time Stafford and Parent PLUS Loan Information and Online Application Process. Current students that need to choose a new lender also start here.

We encourage you to read all documents carefully and to know the terms of any loan before signing a promissory note. As you proceed through the application process, you will be provided with information on the terms of the loan disclosures, etc. However, if you would like to review the terms and conditions of a Master Promissory Note prior to beginning the application process, click here for Stafford and here for PLUS


First-Time Stafford Borrower Information

If you have not borrowed a Federal Stafford Loan in the past or you are a current student who needs to choose a new lender because your previous loan was borrowed through College Board, TCF, SLX, or CLC, click here to learn more about Stafford Loans, choose a lender, complete loan entrance counseling if necessary and apply for your loan.

If you are a returning Carleton student who has borrowed in the past and DO NOT NEED TO CHOOSE A NEW LENDER, you DO NOT need to complete this online process. Go here for more information.

First-Time Parent PLUS Loan Information

If you have not borrowed a Federal Parent PLUS Loan in the past or you are a parent of a current student who needs to choose a new lender because your previous loan was borrowed through College Board, TCF, SLX, or CLC, click here to learn more about PLUS loans, choose a lender and apply for your loan.

If you are a parent of a returning Carleton student and have borrowed a Parent PLUS loan in the past and DO NOT NEED TO CHOOSE A NEW LENDER, click here to request a loan for the 2008-09 school year.
