May 6, 2010 at 1:17 pmEver wondered what goes on in the CAMS department? What follows is the chronicle of one CAMS major and the volunteers who are helping her see a short film through from script to completion.
Step It Up and Dance
May 4, 2010 at 1:49 pmThey say that a picture is worth a thousand words. It would have been nice if this article about Saturday night’s Step It Up and Dance performance could have been accompanied by photos – I even brought a camera with me to the Concert Hall and everything. Sadly, an accident took place involving some absentmindedness, a purse, and a water bottle that tends to spring leaks. So you’ll have to make do with a thousand words as I try my best to describe what Step It Up and Dance looked like.
1 Day + 3 Plays = Chaos
April 30, 2010 at 1:35 pmA valiant group of students creates three plays in one long day. Results?
Modular Origami in the CMC
April 28, 2010 at 9:59 amLast Friday night, students assembled in the upper CMC to see professor Gail Nelson give a demonstration on modular origami. While we were waiting, I overheard one student explaining how she’d just learned that an irrational number raised to an irrational number can be rational. Yep, that’s the Carleton math department.
Battle of the Bands
April 26, 2010 at 10:39 amSpring Concert approaches, and though the college brings in professional bands to play at this event, student bands get to play as well. Battle of the Bands, the competitive smackdown that determines which student bands get to have this singular honor, has now become an annual tradition. This year’s battle took place third weekend at the Grand.
Ten Things I Wish I Had Known As a Freshman
April 24, 2010 at 7:43 pmThe Shout blog has a tradition that when a senior blogger is about to graduate, he or she writes a post passing on words of wisdom to the younger generation. It seems that time really does fly when you're having fun. I could have sworn that it was only three or four weeks ago that I was having my orientation meeting down at Web Services Group to start this job, but really it's been four year. I'm a senior now. And it's my turn to pass on the words of wisdom.
John Mawhorter Designed a Videogame for His Comps
April 21, 2010 at 9:51 amSpring term 2010 must be the season for exciting and unusual comps presentations. Last week, the John Mawhorter ’10 of the CAMS department held this talk: “I designed a videogame for my comps. There are guns in it. And explosions.”
Doesn’t that just make you wish you were a CAMS major?
BASTE
April 20, 2010 at 1:13 pmLast week’s Arena dance performance, BASTE, didn't open with the usual introduction explaining who was going to be dancing and what they were going to do. Instead, the lights dimmed and a dancer appeared on the stage with a copy of the program. Then another dancer came along and they fought over it.
Promiscuous Monkey Sex: Why Everybody Benefits
April 14, 2010 at 10:17 am“Promiscuous Monkey Sex: Why Everybody Benefits.” That title may have been the reason so many people came to Anatasha Plummer ‘10’s biology comps talk last week. The other title she considered using, “Facultative Cooperative Polyandry in Callitrichidae,” doesn’t have quite the same, well, draw.
Eleemosynary
April 8, 2010 at 11:10 amNo, this is not an article about the Carleton Spelling Bee, it's an article about the wonderful play Eleemosynary (which has a spelling bee in it).
Living the Map: 50 Jobs in 50 States
April 7, 2010 at 10:43 amCan't get a job? You're not the only one. Daniel Seddiqui, last week's convo speaker, found an unusual solution to his trouble getting work.
Outside the Lines
April 7, 2010 at 10:01 am“Outside the Lines,” the new art exhibit that opened last week in Boliou, is unique: none of the students featured there are art majors.
