Last Friday, the Carleton Art Gallery opened its new exhibit, "Public Aesthetics and Mass Politics."  It features a collection of 20th century Latin American posters including everything from protest posters and propaganda to movie advertisements.  The curator of the collection, Teresa Eckmann of the University of Texas at San Antonio, gave a talk Friday night on the posters.  Though they come from many different eras and nations, she drew attention to the posters' common features, which include economy of style, integration of text, political message and use of understatement.

You can learn more about the exhibition at the Carleton Art Gallery website.
