The NNB can provide a snapshot into the minds of Carleton students.  For the most part, it’s an uncensored marketplace of ideas where the wild, the wacky, and the only-at-Carleton crop up at regular intervals.  What follows is a collection of some of the most interesting NNB ads we got to read over lunch this term.

Study quotes were a new feature of the NNB this term:

“Arguments with furniture are rarely productive.” -Kehlog Albran

There were also juxtapositions that provided some food for thought:

BIOLOGY DEPARTMENT Seminar: Dr. Ray Dybzinski, Princeton University. "Understanding the competitive strategies of trees." 3:30pm, Olin 141
PERSONAL SAFETY and Self Defense. Monday May 10, 17. 6-8:30pm Rec Center Conducted by Martial arts Expert Mary Brandl

NNB ads can be exuberant:

GET READY! GET READY! GET READY! EARTH WEEK IS COMING! EARTH WEEK IS COMING! EARTH WEEK IS COMING! 4TH WEEK IS EARTH WEEK!

Sometimes, they can make you wonder just what the context was:

IPOD. I dropped mine in boiling water and left in there over night. I'll buy your extra pod!
TORTOISE OWNER, real or faux? Let it make its stage debut in Arcadia this weekend.
MISSING LOTS of shoes? I received a package full of someone's shoes by mistake at the end of winter term!
YOU MUST be red bull, because you gave me wings. No, really, via campus mail. Thanks, and please explain.
LONELY? Now accepting applications for new friendship opportunity.  All applicants will receive a response.
DAVEY CROCKETT-STYLE coonskin cap to borrow for Ebony 4th weekend. I won't ask why you have one.
SCRATCHY SWEATERS PLEASE must borrow (AS MANY AS POSSIBLE) for reading days. many thanks.

Sometimes we get to share in a moment of victory:

TO WHOEVER returned my lightsaber: Big mistake.I am 1-0 all time in lightsaber battles. But seriously, thanks.
I DONATED to the alumni fund and now I may or may not have super awesome powers! Tabling in Sayles Thursdays and Fridays.

Sometimes we can sympathize:

WANTED: A RADIO show and a hot drink. tea would be nice. preferably not pickwick.

And sometimes, NNB ads will renew your faith in humanity:

THANK YOU for the cupcake I found in my mailbox!!! Please tell me who you are and I'll buy YOU a cupcake!
FLIGHT TO Rio. Massage chair. Beer. You COULD have charged these to my credit card. Instead, you returned it. Let me thank you!!
YOU DID a good thing in the Superlounge late on Saturday. I am incredibly grateful. Thank you.
