Initiatives

At Carleton we talk a lot about our 1.65 Megawatt wind turbines, soon to be completed LEED GOLD certified residence halls, and campus wide compost and one-stream recycling programs. And for good reason, these projects have made huge improvements in the environmental sustainability of our college's operations and infrastructure. But in between admiring the 360 ft high wind turbine have you ever noticed the Green Roof or the college-owned Priuses? Did you wonder what was happening when electrical crews dug a 20-foot hole covering half the lawn in front of Burton Dorm? Wonder where all the ketchup packets in Sayles went?
Carleton has been striving to make all its actions, even the ones you might never see, more environmentally sustainable. This page covers both the well-knowns and the very under-the-radars. How are VFDs saving the college money and reducing campus energy consumption, you ask? Read on!
