Building Energy Use

Boliou at Night       Library at Night

At Carleton, people wake up early and go to bed late.  And not only do people operate on a borderline 24/7 lifestyle here, but our location in southern Minnesota presents us with a number of weather extremes throughout the year.  These factors add up to a lot of energy use on campus.  The two pictures above show Boliou and the Library, both full of students, at 1:30 am the Friday before finals Fall '08.

The following pages show monthly energy use totals (heat and electricity) for Carleton buildings beginning as early as 2006. Carleton's electric metering system was recently reorganized and monthly numbers for kWh used by every building on campus are now available.  Natural gas (ccf) and water data for Carleton houses has been recorded since the beginning of 2008.
