[Japan Week 2011: Devashree Gupta and Margaret Pezalla-Granlund]
Technos College annually invites Carleton to send one faculty (or staff) member and two students to "International Week in Tokyo," which is funded by the Tanaka Memorial Foundation, an organization that endeavors to promote international understanding. The events of International Week involve host Technos College and fourteen American colleges and organizations.
The all-expenses paid opportunity typically takes place in early June, and is limited to faculty/staff and students who have not previously been to Japan. Faculty members who have participated in this event include: John Schott (2004), Éva Pósfay (2005), Harry Williams (2006), Fred Hagstrom (2007), Carol Donelan (2008), Constance Walker (2009), and Steve Drew (2010). In 2011, a change in plans by Technos allowed Carleton to send Devashree Gupta and Margaret Pezalla-Granlund.
Dr. Kenji Tanaka, the founder of Technos College, and his family have made grants totaling more than $1 million to Carleton through the Tanaka Memorial Foundation in New York. Dr. Tanaka, his family, and his organization have established a productive relationship with Carleton, which looks forward to deepening this relationship by sending teams to participate in International Week each year.
