<description>&lt;p&gt;The second travel project supported jointly by the Japan Foundation New York and the GLCA Fund for the Study of Japan will depart June 1 and return June 10, 2010. Professor Ann Sherif, Oberlin College, is leading this project. They are seeking six to seven faculty members, especially from the fields of Anthropology, Cultural Studies, Environmental Studies, Film, History, Literature, and Sociology to participate in the study tour, Environment and Nature in Japan. <title>Book Features Letters Exchanged Between U.S. and Iraqi Children</title>
<description>&lt;p&gt;Carleton students collaborate on a new book featuring letters exchanged between U.S. and Iraqi children during the Iraq War. Celebrate &quot;Dear Friend&quot; this Veterans Day, Wednesday, November 11, at 7 p.m. in the Gould Library Athenaeum. Aimed at humanizing the war, the letter exchange was designed to promote understanding, giving children on both sides of the war active roles in preventing future conflict.  The project represents a collaboration between the Children's Culture Connection, a Northfield organization; the Cannon Falls Public Schools; and Carleton students.&lt;/p&gt;</description>

<title>Elevator Upgrades Scheduled Soon</title>
<description>&lt;p&gt;Last summer, a few of the campus elevators were upgraded to new code requirements mandated by state law and more are scheduled this month. This year is the first year of a three-year plan to upgrade all campus elevators which will take longer to complete in the older buildings. Please note the schedule as to when the elevator will be out of order in each of the following buildings:&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;ul&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Johnson/Alumni House: Monday through Wednesday, November 16 through 18&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Rec Center: Tuesday through Thursday, November 17 through 19&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Boliou Hall: Friday through Tuesday, November 20 through 24&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Library: Tuesday through Tuesday, November 24 through December 1&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;/ul&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The elevator in Center for Math and Computing and the Language and Dining Center will also be upgraded during break, and the schedule will be published as soon as it is decided. Please contact Kirk Campbell at x4460 if you have any questions.&lt;/p&gt;</description>

<description>&lt;p&gt;Professor of Chemistry and Co-Director of the Carleton Interdisciplinary Science and Math Initiative (CISMI) was part of a panel presentation in October with five other research collaborators at the annual meeting of the International Society for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (ISSOTL) held at Indiana University in Bloomington. The panel, titled &quot;Lingering in the Commons: Collective Inquiry in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning,&quot; discussed scholarship around two new Indiana University Press books on college teaching—one on citizenship across the curriculum, and the other on teaching science connected to interdisciplinary real-world issues. Trish is co-editing the science book with David Geelan (University of Queensland).&lt;/p&gt;</description>

The research explores the impact of emotional content, witness tone, and the relevancy of a crime to a juror on that juror's memory for the content of the testimony.&lt;/p&gt;</description>
