What do I do if I need prescription medicines while I am at Carleton?

· You can fill your prescription medicines before coming to Carleton at your home pharmacy.

· You can have your health care provider write a prescription that you can fill at local Northfield Pharmacies

· You can make an appointment with one of the Nurse Practitioners at The Wellness Center to review your prescription needs.

· If you are on Adderall or other meds for ADHD you need to make an appointment with one of The Wellness Center staff members who can clear you to meet with our staff Psychiatrist. He will review your case and write prescriptions to be filled in Northfield. We request that you have your home provider send us dictation regarding your diagnosis/progress and treatment program before you make an appointment at The Wellness Center. Fax to: 507-222-5038. We find this very helpful with your care.

I anticipate needing on-going counseling for a psychological concern. Can I work with a psychologist at The Wellness Center?

The Wellness Center (TWC) offers short-term individual and group counseling services to enrolled Carleton students. Counselors will meet with students needing longer-term care to help them find appropriate referrals in the community. The Wellness Center also provides the services of a psychiatrist whom students may see free of charge, upon referral from another TWC staff member. Students who anticipate needing long-term counseling or who begin college with a history of serious mental health concerns (chronic depression or anxiety, serious eating disorders, bipolar disorder, etc.) should establish care with a local psychological provider with whom they can establish an ongoing therapeutic relationship.

Does Carleton College offer an insurance plan that I can purchase?

The College works with Specialty Risk Group (800-513-3788) to provide a student accident/sickness plan. Contact them for general questions about the plan. The plan is underwritten by Combined Insurance Company of America and will provide coverage for a full twelve months. The premium for coverage is $653. Information about the plan was mailed to your home in the #1 mailing. In general, most benefits are paid at 80%, after the one-time $100 deductible, but we encourage you to view the policy for complete, accurate details of the plan.

Does the Carleton Insurance Plan offer Mental Health Coverage?

Yes. The insured student is responsible for a $100 deductible per year. Policy year maximum is 80% of the first 10 hours and 75% of the next 20 hours. Maximum benefit is 30 hours in one policy year.

Authorization is required for any and all outpatient services in excess of 10 hours. The provider will contact the insurance company to get authorization. This is not the student’s responsibility. Student should file a claim form after every diagnosis for reimbursement. Claim forms can be picked up at The Wellness Center or downloaded from www.visit-aci.com/forms/COM05.pdf.
