HPV vaccination information
Protect yourself against cervical cancer
Consider getting the new HPV vaccination
What is the HPV vaccination? Gardasil is the new vaccine that protects women against cervical cancer and genital warts. It is approved for women 26 years of age and younger. HPV (human papilloma virus) causes 1 million new infections every year in the US. Research studies have shown that 4 types of HPV cause 70% of cervical cancers and 90% of genital warts. These 4 viral types are included in the vaccination Gardasil and it is nearly 100% effective. The vaccination is given in a series of 3 shots over a 6 month period of time. With the 2nd shot given 2 months after the first and the 3rd shot given greater than 6 months after the first shot. For more info see: www.cdc.gov/std/hpvIf you have started your HPV series, please bring dates and documentation of received doses to appointments.
