Sexually Transmitted Infections

Free HIV Testing:

Rural Aids Action Network will provide free HIV testing on Tuesday May 12 from 10 am - 3 pm. Contact The Wellness Center (x4080) to make an appointment.

Sexually transmitted infections/diseases (STIs/STDs)

STIs are infections caused by a virus or bacteria that affect the reproductive organs. For up to date information on how to prevent STIs and to receive comprehensive information about the most common STIs (including transmission, diagnois and treatment) go to the National Planned Parenthood site or the Minnesota Planned Parenthood site

If you are worried that you may have a sexually transmitted infection, make an appointment with an advanced practice nurse/nurse practitioner at The Wellness Center (x4080) to discuss your concerns. They can help you find testing sites that are affordable and confidential. You may also access the Carleton student group AIDS/HIV Awareness (AHA) website for additional information about testing sites and trips.

The Wellness Center offers STI counseling and limited testing. We offer Chlamydia/Gonorrhea testing, both DNA probe and LCR urine test, for $25 (prices subject to change). We are not able to offer other tests for reduced rates, so we advise you to obtain services where you can get reduced fees and confidential services, including:

Planned Parenthood , Red Door Clinic (Note: Monday and Friday are busy, especially at the end of the day. Wednesday/Thursdays AM are slower days. Sliding scale.), Room 111 (Need to be there ½ hour before closing in order to be seen. Sliding scale.)

If you choose to go to a local medical clinic, insurance may cover the cost of testing (please check on your insurance coverage beforehand) or you may need to pay out of pocket for testing.
