Physical Health Care
Medical Services
The Wellness Center (TWC) is the first point of contact for students who need general medical treatment, gynecological care and travel medicine. Health education is also provided. TWC collaborates with and refers to other health professionals in the community as needed.
Our medical staff involves 2 nurse practitioners. The Wellness Center is open for appointments Monday-Friday 8:30 - 11 and 1- 4 pm.
Cost: Visits to TWC are free to Carleton students. There are charges for basic lab tests, certain procedures and some medications. Pap smears and testing for sexually transmitted infections are provided at a reduced cost. For specific prices or inquiries please call TWC. Some labs are done through the Northfield City Hospital and charged to insurance or paid out-of-pocket.
Appointments: Appointments can be made by calling TWC at 507-646-4080. To assure that you are provided enough time for your appointment, the receptionist will ask the reason for your visit. If you feel uncomfortable with this, you may ask to speak directly with a nurse about your health concerns.
Confidentiality: All medical records and visits to TWC are confidential and cannot be released without the student's signed consent. Parental requests for information, via phone calls or in person, cannot be granted without the student's signed release.
Allergy Shots: The Wellness Center does not provide allergy shots on campus. The Allina Medical Clinic provides these services and may be reached at 507-663-9000 to answer questions about allergy shots, cost, and administration.
Birth Control Refills: We will refill birth control from our pharmacy for students we have seen. Please call the front desk with your request and you can pick them up the next clinic day. You will not be notified unless there is a problem. If a student has never been seen by a WC provider for birth control, they will need to schedule a 40 minute appointment for a discussion.
Immunizations: Immunizations are provided via Homeland Health numerous times per academic year. Please visit the Immunization page of our website for details.
Transportation For Off-Campus Medical Appointments: If you require transportation to an off-campus clinic or hospital, you may utilize Northfield Transit or Taxi Services (either A & R Taxi or Taxi First Choice.)
