A: A celebration of Nancy Wilkie’s career on the occasion of her retirement from Carleton College.

You are invited on April 12 and 13 to help us celebrate.  Formal program includes:

Friday, 7:30 pm, Boliou 104 --films showing impacts of illicit artifact trade

Saturday, 9:00 am, Weitz Cinema-- Keynote speech:  “Saving the Archaeological Past for Our Future: Evolving Legal and Ethical Standards,” Professor Patty Gerstenblith, De Paul University, chair of the U.S. State Department Cultural Properties Advisory Committee, the group that advises the Secretary of State on proposed bilateral agreements between the U.S. and other countries to prohibit illicit import and export of archaeological and ethnographic materials. 

Saturday, 10:30 am, Weitz Cinema--Panel of Carleton archaeology alums: John Doershuk 1980, who is the State Archaeologist in Iowa ; Michael Madson 1994, who is an archaeologist in cultural resource management with Merjent based in Minneapolis; Jennifer Cerny Niquette 1996, who most recently was the executive director of the Rogers Street Historic Fishing Village & Museum in Wisconsin.

Patty Gerstenblith's  participation is supported by the Elizabeth Nason Distinguished Women Visitors Fund.
