Work experience outside college is one of the most important factors employers will look at when interviewing college students for future positions. In a recent National Association of Colleges and Employers survey of 212 employers, full-time jobs were offered to 58% of the students who had done internships with their organizations, on average.

• The LACN Internship Database has thousands of internships posted by 28 liberal arts colleges, including Carleton. To view all internships, log in to The Tunnel and follow the "jump to" link in the top menu or click the Liberal Arts Career Network logo in the lower left.
• Carleton Class of 1960: Developing Civic Leaders Program - The Class of 1960 has designated a portion of their legacy gift to support internships in non-profit organizations. PLEASE NOTE: There is a separate application cover sheet and faculty recommendation form for this funded internship application

Funding Sources for Internships

Most internships, sadly, are either unpaid or low-paying. These funding sources can help make these important career experiences more financially feasible.

• Carleton's Social Justice Internships - Internships provide financial support to students pursuing unpaid or low-paying summer internships or training programs in not-for-profit or other organizations promoting social justice.
• Creating Rewarding Educational Development Opportunities (CREDO) - Career Center Board member Laura Clise ’01 established this fund to facilitate learning and development opportunities for students with financial need who want to pursue unpaid internships or research fellowships.
• Initiative for Service Internships in International Development - This initiative is intended to financially support internships for Carleton students who perform volunteer service in the areas of international community development, including business cooperatives, public wellness and treatment, literacy and education, and other public services in developing countries.
• Lipton Family Fund for Career Exploration - The Lipton Family Fund supports internships and other career exploration opportunities in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area.
• Mayo Innovation Scholars Program - This program offers an opportunity for selected undergraduate science and business students along with MBA student leaders to research selected projects submitted by Mayo Clinic professionals through the Mayo Ventures and Licensing activity.
• Richard T. Newman Family Fund for Language Study Internships Abroad - This fund is intended to support and encourage Carleton students to pursue internships in foreign countries that can lead to career opportunities in the field of foreign languages. The primary language used in the internship shall be one of the languages offered at Carleton: Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Japanese, Latin, Russian, and Spanish.
• The M. Leith Shackel '29 Internship Endowment Fund - This fund provides stipends for first year, sophomore, and junior students who pursue unpaid or low-pay summer internships.
• Sam ’75 and Meg Woodside Endowed Fund for Career Exploration - Sam ’75 and Meg Woodside established this fund in 2008 to support students pursuing unpaid internships or other workplace experiences with domestic government or non-profit organizations.
