Energy Club

Energy Club began in the winter of 2016 as an excited discussion group for students, faculty, and staff interested in renewable energy issues. Members gave little talks at meetings about energy topics they had experience with and we talked about energy in the news.

Spring term of 2016 Energy club blossomed into an organizational machine that fielded the campus wide Energy Symposium. The symposium brought together faculty, staff, Northfield community members, and students from a multitude of disciplines, (even an alumnus who served as professional staff for the House Committee on Energy and Commerce in Washington DC Skyped in) to speak about the interdisciplinary nature of renewable energy.

Fall 2016, Energy Club became a CCCE Program! This gave the club the opportunity to have a larger community engagement component, especially with Mary Jo Cristofaro, from Community Solar and the Greater Northfield Sustainability Collaborative. They will likely be helping Mary Jo promote the new solar garden around Northfield and persuading local businesses and churches to buy in as well.

Possible new directions include a research project focused on understanding renewable energy possibilities at Carleton, and energy science in the lab.
