Carleton College to Sponsor Informational Panel on Haiti
January 25, 2010Carleton College is sponsoring a panel on Haiti so College and Northfield area community members can learn more about the country following the recent massive earthquake and resulting tragedy on Wednesday, Jan. 27 from 5-6 p.m. in Boliou Hall, room 104. Carleton history professor Susannah Ottaway will moderate the panel.
Community Invited to Tibetan Buddhist Service of Teaching and Meditation
January 22, 2010On Sunday, January 24 at 5 p.m., the Northfield community is invited to attend a special Tibetan Buddhist Service of Teaching and Mediation in the Skinner Memorial Chapel at Carleton College. The service will be led by Lama Tsultrim Yeshe and a soup supper will follow the service. This event is free and open to the public.
Carleton College and the Northfield Community Team Up for “Huge” Trombone Recital
January 22, 2010Carleton College professors of music Ron Rodman and Nicola Melville, Carleton trombone students, professor Paul Niemisto of St. Olaf College, the Northfield Trombones, and the St. John's Lutheran Church Trombone Ensemble have joined forces to present a trombone recital to end all trombone recitals! The performance will take place on Friday, January 29 at 8 p.m. in the Carleton College Concert Hall. The program will include works by Milhaud, Telemann, Ewazen, Gabriel Stockhausen, Scheidt, Grieg, Sousa, Gershwin, They Might Be Giants, and others. This event is free and open to the public.
Reaching out: Students team up with Northfield community in debut of TOPSoccer program
January 22, 2010On Sundays at 3:00 pm, student volunteers flock to Cowling Gym where they help local youth with disabilities learn and play soccer as part of the TOPSoccer project (The Outreach Program for Soccer).
Carleton Hosts Annual Craft and Bake Sale Fundraiser
December 1, 2009Carleton College’s annual holiday Craft and Custodial Bake Sale will take place on Friday, December 4 from 9:00 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Great Space of the Sayles-Hill campus center. A wide variety of hand-crafted items and baked goods will be available for purchase, ranging from jewelry, afghans, baskets, and much more. This event is free and open to the public.
Bookstore Celebrates the Community of Northfield

The Carleton Bookstore welcomes Northfield community members to visit its newly redesigned and renovated store TODAY, with extended shopping hours from 8:30 a.m. until 8 p.m. As a special incentive, all general reading books, clothing and gifts will be discounted 20%. Shoppers can also enter to win one of two $25 gift cards. Free gift wrapping will also be offered on all purchases. And, any book not currently in stock can be ordered at the discounted price and will be available for pick-up prior to the Christmas holiday.

Northfield Experiences Roman Empire Through Carleton Student's Film
November 20, 2009In a year rich in student film projects at Carleton – there were at least five movie productions underway this fall – Nova Roma, an alternate history of the Roman Empire conceived and directed by Alexander Cooney ’11 (Golden Valley, Minn.), stands out for its creative use of resources. The help of other Carleton CAMS (Cinema and Media Studies) students has been essential in the film's production, with filming locations taking place at Carleton and St. Olaf Colleges, as well as in the Minnesota’s capital city, St. Paul.
Dog Walkers Reminded to Keep Pets On Leash in Cowling Arboretum
November 20, 2009Dog walkers in the Carleton College Arboretum may have noticed new signs and increased vigilance regarding off-leash dogs in the Arboretum. Cowling Arboretum policy has long been that all dogs must be leashed, but several dog-related incidents over the past few months have encouraged us to be more forceful with educating dog walkers.
Carleton Arboretum Sponsors Field Trip to McKnight Prairie
